Founded in 1996 by professional musicians interested by the gregorian chant as the roots of occidental music, the consort performs also medieval polyphonie and contemporary music written sometimes for them : Arvo Pärt, Helena Tulve, Erkki-Sven Tüür, Tõnis Kaumann, Sven Grünberg .
Vox used to collaborate with the soprano Arianna Saval, the pianist Jean-Claude Pennetier, the harpsichord player Marco Ambrosini, the israeli musician Yair Dalal, the arabic singer Dhafer Youssef, the Cello consort from Amsterdam, the Choir and the Philharmonie of Tallin.
The ensemble recorded for ECM Records & Mirage a CD «Liszt -Via crucis» which received le diapason d’or in 2013, the CD «Arvo-Pärt – Adam’s Lament» which had the GRAMMY 2014 prizefor the best choir performance. The Film with Vox Clamantis participation «The Great Beauty» (La Grande Bellezza), received the Oscara for the best non english language film.The CD «Arvo Pärt. The Deer’s Cry» (ECM) had the Diapason d’or in 2018.
Vox Clamantis performs in Estonia and all over the world. Among others, the choir was invited to the Sydney Festival, the Hong Kong Arts Festival, RCM’s 21C festival in Toronto, Manchester International Festival, La Folle Journée festival in France and in Japan, at The International Piano Festival of La Roque d’Anthéron, itd.
